Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Brake fluid
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Tire iron
  • Replacement brake line
  • Line wrenches
  • Vinyl hose
  1. Preparation

    • 1

Open your Tacoma's hood and locate the master cylinder reservoir at the rear of the compartment on the driver's side. Top off the brake fluid and seal the cap tightly to reduce the amount of fluid lost during the replacement process.

    • 2

Lift the vehicle on jack stands that can support a truck. Remove the first wheel to reach the brake line and caliper.

    • 3

Inspect the brake hose and replace it if there's visible damage.

    • 4

Bend the replacement line to mimic the old line and minimize strain while driving.

    Replacement

    • 1

Disconnect the brake line at the brake hose first. Loosen the two bolts on each connector with two line wrenches.

    • 2

Install the replacement line. Attach the end farthest from the brake hose first to avoid stretching the hose. Tighten the bolts with the wrenches after applying them by hand.

    • 3

Bleed the system of air. Open the caliper bleeder valve, attach a vinyl hose to it and place the other end in a container half-filled with brake fluid. Have an assistant press the brake pedal to remove the air.

    • 4

Attach the wheel and repeat the process for the other three ends. Test the brakes once you've replaced all the lines on your Tacoma.
