How to Remove the Headlamp in a 2005 Toyota Camry

How to Remove the Headlamp in a 2005 Toyota Camry

The 2005 Toyota Camry uses individual halogen lamps for the low- and high-beam headlights. Unlike older types of sealed-beam headlights where the lens is part of the light, the Camry has a bulb that is removed from the headlight housing and is actually easier to replace than the older style lights. When replacing this type of light, be careful not to touch the glass part of the bulb, as oil from your skin can create a hot spot on the bulb and cause premature failure. Save money by replacing a burned-out headlamp yourself.

Difficulty:
Moderately Easy

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • Replacement bulb
    • 1

Raise the hood of the Camry and locate the back of the headlamp assembly.

    • 2

Grip the bulb holder on the bad bulb and twist it counterclockwise. It will only move about a 1/4 turn. Pull the bulb straight back and out of the headlamp housing.

    • 3

Push in on the clips on the bottom of the bulb where the electrical connector plugs into the bulb. At the same time, pull the connector out of the bulb.

    • 4

Push the electrical connector into the new bulb. Insert the new bulb into the headlight housing and twist clockwise to lock it into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you happen to touch the glass part of the bulb, wipe it off with a paper towel with a little rubbing alcohol on it.

  • The low-beam and high-beam lights are different. Be sure to purchase the right one.
