Toyota often puts the VIN on the inside of the driver's door.

The 1994 Toyota Landcruiser has a 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number or VIN located inside the driver's door. The digits on the VIN represent the country of origin, manufacturer, details of the car style, production number and also contain a check digit to prevent vehicle identification fraud. All Toyotas share several of the same VIN identifiers, but variations reflect the year, make, model, plant and county of each vehicle.

Instructions

things you'll need:

  • VIN Code specific to the vehicle
    • 1

Find the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on your automobile. For vehicles built after 1989, the VIN will be on the inside of the driver's door. Toyotas sometimes place VINs on the driver's side dashboard, near the lower part of the windshield.

    • 2

The first three digits of a VIN are called the World Manufacturer's Identifier (WMI). The first digit represents the country of origin. For Toyota, this could be a "1," "4" or "5" for the United States; a "2" for Canada; "3" for Mexico; and "J" for Japan. The second digit is "T" for Toyota. The third digit should be a "2," which is the number assigned to passenger cars.

    • 3

Use the next five numbers as a group. The fourth through eighth digits are called the Vehicle Description Section and represent the details of the Landcruiser such as series, model, body style and engine type.

    • 4

Treat the ninth digit in isolation. This number is a random digit assigned to the car to prevent VIN fraud and can be traced back to the manufacturer to the exact car by using it in conjunction with the other digits.

    • 5

Check the tenth digit matches the year of the car. Up to 2000, Toyota used letters to denote these while after 2000, numbers were used. Toyotas made in 1994 should have the letter "R" in the tenth position.

    • 6

Determine which plant produced your Toyota Landcruiser with the eleventh digit. If the vehicle was made in Ontario, Canada, the letter will be "C." Alternatively, if the car was made in the U.S.,then you will find one of the following: "O" for Supra Plants, U for Georgetown, Ky., or a "Z" for Fremont, Calif.

    • 7

The final digits, 12 to 17, refer to the unique serial number of the car and list the exact production sequence of the car. This series of digits also includes at what point the car came off the production line.
